Mercury vehicles have a long history going back to the 1800's when they were first introduced. Today, they are among the world's most well-known brands. While these vehicles represent some of the world's most well-known names in the car industry, the history of the Mercury brand stretches back much further than that. Indeed, the Mercury brand is more well-known today as the manufacturer of golf carts than it is as an auto maker.

The history of Mercury first began with the acquisition of a motor manufacturing company in Denver, CO by Meriwether Lewis Co. in the year 1819. The business was created so that Mercury could manufacture parts for cars. The company quickly grew in size thanks to its success in automobile production and was sold to a man named Richard Emerson Shea "Weegee" Seabrook in the year 1820. In the next few years, the company's name changed to Mercury windshield replacement El Paso, TX and then to the more familiar Mercury Motors. From there, the company added to its lineup of models, expanding into both passenger cars and trucks in the late twentieth century.

Perhaps one of the most recognizable Mercury vehicles is the Mercury Grand Marquis. Styling elements of this vehicle are typically a bit larger than other models of the Mercury division. Though this might be confusing to some, such styling is very common amongst Mercury models. Also, in the mid-to-late 1950s, the Mercury Grand Marquis was retrofitted with full-body Mercury badge lights. It is believed that this styling was done so as to improve visibility while still possessing the signature Mercury look.
